GS Council Patch Programs LINK

Council Patch Programs allow girls to explore a wide range of topics and have unique learning experiences that might not be available through the traditional badge work. Council Patches can be completed as a Troop or as an Individual Girl Scout. Simply download the activity booklet and evaluation form for the patch you wish to work on. When finished, bring the completed evaluation form to the GSNC Shop to purchase the patch.

100th Anniversary of the Gold Award Patch Program - Flight to Leadership

Juliette Low pinned her first girl achieving the Highest Award in Girl Scouts at that time, the Golden Eaglet of Merit, in the year 1916. The year 2016 will be a celebration of all things Leadership. To earn this patch, you will need to complete one activity from each of the sections below.

Caring for Your Heart 

This Heart Health Patch Program was created by the North Shore-LIJ Health System's Division of Cardiovascular Services, the American Heart Association and Girl Scouts of Nassau County. To earn this patch, girls learn about how the heart works and about heart healthy choices. Then they do things to keep their heart healthy and share what they learned with others. Patches are free of charge in the Girl Scout Shop. (All levels)

Every Drop Counts

This Patch Program was created by the Long Island Water Conference in conjunction with Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. Its purpose is to teach the importance of water conservation. The challenge is to save as much water as possible in a one-week period. PATCH AVAILABLE IN THE GSNC SHOP!

Girl Scouts of Nassau County's Oceanography Brownie Badge

Girl Scouts of Nassau County Oceanography Brownie Badge was modeled on a similar one offered by Oregon’s Columbia River Girl Scout Council. The content has been modified for our local ecosystem. Brownie Girl Scouts will enjoy these simple and fun activities that help them understand and appreciate plant and animal life in the Atlantic Ocean.

Girls Having Strong, Healthy Lungs: Asthma Awareness Patch Program

This 2002 patch program developed in conjunction with the Nassau-Suffolk Asthma Coalition has activities for all age levels. Through this program girls learn about the respiratory system, how we breathe, and how to identify asthma triggers in our environment. It encourages girls to develop a healthy lifestyle by avoiding cigarette smoke, eating healthy foods, and exercising regularly. (All age levels)

"Go Batty!" Discovering Bats on Long Island

Look up in the sky. It's a bird, it's a plane. . . no it's a BAT!  Bats are one of the most misunderstood creatures in the world. Are they birds, flying mice or mammals?  What factors are threatening them and why are they important to humans? Find out more about this interesting and unique animal. (All levels)

Go Girl, GOVERN

The Go Girl, GOVERN Patch Program, for Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, is sponsored by the Long Island Women's Agenda (LIWA) in conjunction with Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. Its purpose is to encourage girls to learn about the role of women in government and foster awareness of government as a future career choice. FREE PATCH IN THE GSNC SHOP! Hurricane Awareness

“Be prepared” is the Girl Scout motto. Being prepared for a hurricane or tropical storm is important for Long Islanders. Historically, hurricanes have left an imprint on our shoreline and communities many times. Therefore, it is important to know how to prepare for this kind of weather emergency. By completing this patch program, you will gain a better understanding of Long Island’s hurricane history and how to be better prepared for hurricanes and tropical storms. This patch program will help Girl Scouts on Long Island understand the potential impact of hurricanes and learn how to be better prepared in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm. (All levels)

I FISH NY: A Fishing Patch Program

I FISH NY: A Fishing Patch Program was developed in collaboration with the New York Sea Grant. Through this patch program your girls will learn about Long Island's many fresh and saltwater resources as they discover, connect, and take action. Once your girls know some of the basics, they will plan a fishing trip to a local site and then "Go out and fish!" (All levels)

Juliette Low World Friendship Patch Program "Countdown to Thinking Day"

Through this patch program Daisy, Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts learn about Juliette Low and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The activities encourage international exploration and respect for individual differences. The patch program is designed to start in October with Juliette Low's birthday (October 31st) and end in February with a Thinking Day Ceremony (February 22nd). Sample ceremonies and a resource list are included.

New York State of Mind

New York is our home. It is a great State with diverse geographic features, industry and people. Many important historical events took place in New York State. Screenagers

When you complete the Screen-Smart Patch Program, you will: Be aware of how you, your friends and family members, are using screens today — how much time we spend and what activities we do on screens. Collaborate on decisions with your family and friends about when, why and how much to use screens. Learn how to and practice managing your own screen time, with your family’s help. Share what you learn with other girls, your family and your community.

Stand Up to Bullies

Are the girls in your Troop or Association talking about bullying they see in their school? Is there bullying happening within the Troop? Try out this program created by GSNC volunteers and staff. Through this program, you'll help girls learn what bullying is, how to stand up to it, and most importantly challenge themselves to be better friends to girls in their Troop, school, and community.
The program is designed for Brownie and Juniors, and lasts about 1.5 hours. It includes detailed instructions on what to do with the girls, a participation certificate, and instructions for earning the patch, which can be purchased in our shop. The program can be tweaked depending on your time, space, or knowledge of what is best for your girls. SUM-MORE Girl Scouting

Girl Scouting can be a year-round activity for girls. The summer months provide opportunities for girls to participate in activities that require warmer weather or take longer to accomplish than a Troop meeting. TASTEBUDS! Patch Program: Exploring Diversity through Dining

This patch program is designed for Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior & Ambassador Girl Scouts. Through this patch program girls have fun and widen their horizons by learning about another country. The activities include visiting a restaurant, learning about the country's culture and sampling its cuisine. By repeating the activities for additional countries, the girls can add the YUMMY! GREAT! TASTY!
